Accidents certainly happen in the world of BDSM – especially to newer players on the scene. But just because you will certainly have something go wrong at some point doesn’t mean that you need to simply sit back and wait for it to happen. You can take steps to help not only prevent problems, but also you can learn how to handle accidents and injuries when they occur. After all, when you’re in the middle of an intense scene, do you stop what you’re doing? Or do you simply pretend nothing has happened until the scene is done? Those are questions you need answered before you step back into your version of a dungeon.

Have Safety Measures in Place
*******************************
The best way to deal with injuries during your BDSM play is not to have them at all. If you can prevent major injuries from happening, you will not only have a long ‘career’ in BDSM, but you will also have a happy and content Master/Mistress and slave. Some of the easiest ways to help prevent injuries from occurring include:
* Start off slowly – It’s never a good idea to simply try something out without starting off at a slow and steady pace. Anything you do too quickly is something that could cause damage to another person. Whether you’re tying a rope too quickly or moving into a position too quickly, you’re going to get hurt. In the beginning especially, you don’t have to move like a slug, but you should move slowly enough that you can keep yourself safe.
* Watch your surroundings – Often, injuries occur when you’re not aware of what’s around you. Watch your head and your limbs to make sure you’re not going to run into anything while in the midst of a session. The floor should be cleaned of all dangerous items and there should be areas where sex toys can be placed when not in use.
* Have a safe word or signal in place – This will allow the slave to let you know when something is truly wrong. Without a safe word, the Master/Mistress needs to watch the slave very carefully to ensure that everything is okay.
* It is always a good idea to take a course and become certified in CPR and emergency first aid. Hopefully you will never have to use it, but always nice to have in your back pocket just in case.
* Learn before you try something – Instead of simply jumping into new BDSM ideas without knowing what you are doing, try taking some time to read up on the activities and really master them as much as possible. You can read books to help you better understand BDSM activities, such as The BDSM Slave Training Guide

Equipment to Have on Hand
****************************
Since BDSM can become dangerous, it will help for you to have a few simple things beside the bed:
* Emergency shears – These safety scissors are used by paramedics to cut clothes off of patients, but they can also be used to cut rope or tape in a hurry.
* Antiseptic cleaner and cotton pads – These will help to soothe and the clean any broken skin after a caning or other skin trauma.
* Ice packs – If there is bruising that shows up on the skin, a cold compress or ice pack can help to slow the bruise formation and can even reduce the swelling.
* A basic first aid kit is not a bad idea either when things happen during the sessions which are not planned. Often, the slave will assume they will get some sort of skin injury (a minor one, of course), so some bandages are nice to have around to prevent blood from getting onto their clothes.
*******************************
To Continue or Not to Continue?
*******************************
The injured person will then need to make the call as to whether they want to continue the session or not. Most injuries are minor, but they can become more troublesome if more pressure is applied to them. In most cases, it’s probably better to stop things, make sure everyone is okay, and then schedule a do-over when everyone is fixed back up.

What’s Informed Consent and Why Is It Important In BDSM?
The word ‘consent’ comes up constantly in conversations about kink. People often tout it as the core element that separates BDSM from abuse. While this is true, the word by itself doesn’t go far enough to help practitioners, especially those just starting out, protect themselves and one another from potential problems. The term ‘informed consent’ was first used in the medical field and is considered fundamental to ethics and laws regarding patient rights. It describes the process that requires doctors to provide information about possible side effects and other risks before they elicit permission to provide a particular treatment.
Impact Play is More Than Spanking
While spanking is not required in BDSM nor does everyone love to engage in spanking, it is a popular kinky activity. Whether you love the control, the pain, or the intimacy of spanking, it’s worth exploring other avenues. Even if you don’t engage in anything other than your favorite bare-handed spanking, you may pick up some new tricks in the process.

This came in very handy today. There’s a lot of great information here that will help for future sessions. I wish this was posted last week . But now, as the slave, I will be aware of using our safe word and not hesitant so to have a better session in the future
